Head On installation by the renowned Cai Guo-Qiang , consisting of 99 life-sized replicas of wolves.

“With few wolves scattered in the front gallery, all ninety-nine wolves run, gallop, and jump toward the far end of the exhibition hall, where a wall stands. The bravery of the wolves is met head on by the unyielding wall. As the leading wolves go down, many more follow with force and determination. As those in the front fall and pile up, those behind take up their positions.”

This is awesome. wolves man.

I wrote an essay (published here) for The Huffington Post concerning my long-simmering collaboration w/an experimental group at the New York Public Library that peaked today w/the launch of the Stereogranimator, a website application that lets anyone explore & share 3D mashups of the library’s stereograph collection à la my Reaching for the Out of Reach.
If that isn’t cool enough (then who are you? Cary Grant?), The New York Times did an ArtsBeat piece about the project today. I couldn’t be happier.
My work may have inspired this app but the NYPL Labs team is visionary. & this is all to say… go click, share & get lost in these funny flickering things!

Jordan, Alison, and I had our first gallery show. It was phenomenal. We’ve come along way from meeting outside once a week on a gross picnic table and talking about doing great things in art together. we randomly finagled our way into doing this art show and had no idea what we were doing. we were, and still are, naive babies with grandiose ideas. we were scrambling to build a bed, which we finally made out of cardboard, trying to make art good enough for others to look at, trying to prove our worth to our peers, and not knowing if any of it would come together at the end. we didn’t get much sleep, and i’m pretty sure all i ate during the installation days were two pudding packs and copious amounts of dr pepper, but i wouldn’t change a thing. their talents matched my motivation and vice versa. we completed and complemented each other. together we achieved so much neither of us could have done on our own. what really proved that to me was seeing the huge support of our fellow art students. they came out in droves to the reception and so many of them wildly publicized the show for us. i can’t describe how much that meant to us, and i’m extremely honored and proud to be so close to my classmates. art has brought the 50 or so of us together. we’re a family. i couldn’t be happier with how things turned out for us. i know i have loads left to learn, and i’m excited to see what could happen next.

also the campus paper wrote an article about our show’s reception!

yay art!
